Baubles & Botanicals: Exploring Cyanotype
Workshop with Teaching Artist Audrey Lewis
Join local cyanotype artist and instructor Audrey Lewis for Baubles and Botanicals: Exploring Cyanotypes, a two-hour workshop.
An historic photographic process that uses sunlight to create prints from objects placed directly on light-sensitive paper, cyanotypes are also called “sun prints” or blueprints. Areas exposed to light turn a rich, distinctive Prussian blue, while areas covered by your objects remain white, creating a silhouette.
In this warm, welcoming, and judgment-free space, you create your own cyanotype prints using pressed botanicals and pieces of jewelry. Audrey guides you step-by-step through the entire process—from prepping your paper and arranging your composition, to exposing your print in sunlight and finishing your final piece. You also experiment with toning techniques using coffee and tea, transforming the classic blue into soft, earthy variations. Though all materials are provided, you’re encouraged to bring small items from your own collection to make the experience even more personal.
This workshop is all about experimentation, curiosity, and joy. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a small collection of one-of-a-kind prints and the confidence to continue exploring the cyanotype process on your own.
