Whether you are a beginner looking to explore acrylics or an intermediate painter looking to elevate your technique, teaching artist Jane Gonzalez guides you step-by-step through the process of painting a vibrant, soulful pet portrait.
Held in our intimate studio setting, Jane offers you one-on-one mentorship as you explore acrylic techniques, layering and texturing, with tailored advice to help you refine your composition and color palette. You leave this focused creative experience with at least one completed study, as well as the new skills and confidence to continue your artistic journey.
Workshop Highlights
Focus on Furry and Feathered Friends: Discover techniques for painting dynamic, lifelike animals using layered acrylic applications.
Color & Light: Learn to observe and interpret the your subject, using color relationships and texture to make your animal paintings come alive.
Technique Demos: Jane shows you, in her daily, in-depth demonstrations, how to leverage acrylic paint’s quick dry time to build up many layers in just two days, and to apply it thickly for texture or watered down for smooth washes.
Using acrylic paints, you learn to create your underpainting, master fur textures and realistic eyes, and color mixing in a supportive and relaxed setting.

Meet Your Instructor, Teaching Artist Jane Gonzalez
Jane Gonzalez is a classically trained artist working in pastel, oil and acrylic paints who specializes in creating luminous, captivating artworks in all three media. She studied under Juliet Aristides at Gage Academy’s Classical Atelier, the University of Washington’s Natural Science Illustration program and numerous classes and workshops with highly regarded local artists. She’s a member of the Northwest Pastel Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society, and a freelance artist and jewelry designer.
Jane is looking forward to working with you to guide you in creating your own beautiful pastel landscape painting!
