Workshop: A Time to Unwind With Playful Creativity

With Teaching Artist Darcy Ballew

Two hours. Zero decisions. All materials included.

You walk in with the whole week stacked up in your head. Two hours later you’ve got paint on your hands, a quiet mind, and that loose feeling you get after a really good walk.

You arrive, you get a seat, and the table is already set with all the supplies you need. I guide the whole session with simple steps, so there’s never a moment of staring at a blank page wondering what to do. We play with color. We make texture. We let things smudge.

Nobody asks you to share your work, and there’s no example to copy. If life’s been asking a lot of you and it’s been ages since you made something just for fun, you’re exactly who I built this for.

Bring nothing but an open mind and a willingness to let perfectionism go. No experience needed, ever.

This workshop is completely beginner-friendly, and all materials are supplied!

I'm Darcy Ballew, a mixed-media artist and muralist based in Kirkland. I work in collage, ink, watercolor and acrylic, and I love giving old books and scraps a second life. Outside, I make nature art from fallen leaves, petals and stones, and leave it for the wind to take. I have a fine-arts degree and spent years as an elementary-school art docent and running summer creativity camps. Everyone I know is stretched thin, so I built these classes to be a real break. Your hands stay busy, your head gets quiet, and there's no way to get it wrong.
