Parent-Child Lumen Printing

Workshop with Teaching Rachel MacKenna,
For Parent-and-Child (ages 9+) Teams

Calling all science lovers! Lumen printing is a camera-less photographic process that allows you to create images using alternative development techniques. In this class, you use black-and-white (silver-gelatin) photo paper and common household ingredients like lemon juice, coffee, salt water and alcohol to create color changes during the development process. Part art, part chemistry, lumen printing creates photo effects that are both unpredictable and beautiful.

In this freeform, experimental workshop, you place objects, stencils, transparencies and plants on your paper and work quickly with UV lights and added ingredients to make an alternative form of photo. Afterward, your artwork is digitally scanned, capturing the final image at its peak. Digital images will be emailed to each parent participant after class, to be printed as a finished work, or use the digital file for further illustration and editing.

No experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided.
